Excursion to Debre Libanos Monastery & Blue Nile Gorge. A Drive 200 km North from Addis to bahr-dar road over the Entoto Mountains passing through the Sululta Plains , we will have a chance to see the gorge of blue Nile, the monasteries of Debre Libanos. The Blue Nile originates in Ethiopia and pours out from Lake Tana. The road, after 200 kms on the highland, it begins to make dramatic stretches down in to the Blue Nile gorge, 1000,m below, and this is the most spectacular scenery of the landscape of the area. it is really amazing how the great Nile erode the rock and make a marvelous land scape. This truly magnificent gorge is at 1 km depth comparable in scale to the Grand Canyon of America.
The Monastery of Debre Libanos monastery founded in the 13th century by Abune Tekle Haymanot. Overlooking Jema River Gorge, a tributary of the Blue Nile, the Monastery owns ecclesiastical, cultural and historical relics, we have also a chance to see endemic birds an baboons below the monastery there is a bridge which is called Portuguese bridge or eage bridge .85 % of the Nile Water originates in Ethiopia, pours out from Lake Tana.
